Northwest Raleigh

If you've flown into Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) airport, and have headed to Raleigh, you've traveled through Northwest Raleigh, the gateway to North Carolina’s capital city. Glenwood Avenue is a main thoroughfare. From one end of Glenwood, you can spend a day at Brier Creek Shopping Center with its movie theater, big box stores, restaurants and shops and 15 minutes later you can park at Crabtree Valley Mall, one of Raleigh’s most popular shopping destinations anchored by Belk, Macy’s, Sears, and Dillard’s.

William B. Umstead State Park is right off Glenwood Avenue featuring hiking, mountain biking and even trails for horses. Umstead Forest is so convenient to North Raleigh and RTP that many people make quick trips to the park for a mid-day runs and trail rides.

In many neighborhoods along Creedmoor Road, you’ll find mature trees and lots with land, five minutes from Crabtree Valley Mall  and 15-20 minutes from downtown Raleigh. Creedmoor Road is also conveniently located to 540, where you’re minutes from pretty much anywhere in Wake County.

Many new residents first move to Northwest Raleigh, thinking that it is not only close to their jobs in RTP, it may also be close to their spouse’s future job. Northwest Raleigh is also minutes away from other Wake County towns such as Cary, Apex, and Morrisville. This area of town is also home to Rex Hospital, one of Raleigh’s largest employers featuring a top notch cardiology and vascular surgery center.

Close to Rex Hospital on Blue Ridge Road is the North Carolina Museum of Art, a free museum that hosts multiple exhibitions throughout the year. Past exhibits include Monet, Rodin, Norman Rockwell, Toulouse Lautrec, Rembrandt and more of the art world’s greats. Five minutes away is the North Carolina Fairgrounds, where the NC State Fair takes place for 10 days every October.
